IPCC's Synthesis Report Highlights Urgent Climate Action

Sixth Assessment Cycle Concludes with Drastic Measures Needed

Accelerated Climate Ambitions Urged to Prevent Irrevocable Damage

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released its final report of the Sixth Assessment Cycle, the Synthesis Report, providing direct scientific input to guide global climate action.

The report warns that the world must take swift and drastic action to avoid irreversible damage caused by climate change. The Synthesis Report urges states to accelerate their climate ambitions in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

IPCC Chair Hoesung Lee emphasized the need for immediate action, stating, "We have a small window of opportunity remaining to limit warming to 1.5 degrees, and we must not let it slip away." The report highlights the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, called on states to tackle climate change aggressively. He said, "The Synthesis Report provides a clear roadmap for the drastic action we must take to secure a livable future for all."

The IPCC warns that if current trends continue, the world is on track to exceed the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit, leading to catastrophic impacts on ecosystems, human populations, and the global economy.

The Synthesis Report provides a comprehensive overview of the latest scientific evidence on climate change, including its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. It draws on the work of hundreds of scientists and experts from around the world.
